They are visiting lecturers in data visualization at Aalto University and other Finnish universities, and, with professor emeritus Tapio Vapaasalo, the authors of Tieto näkyväksi, the first Finnish-language primer on information design and organizers of the annual Visualizing Knowledge conference.

Koponen+Hildén (f. 2014) is a Helsinki-based design studio specializing in data visualization, interactives, data analysis and workshops. Its clients include a wide range of public sector and media organizations, as well as corporations and NGOs; e.g. City of Helsinki, Ministry of Finance, Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, Finnish Centre for Pensions, Aamulehti and Elo.

He has created award-winning apps like Das Referenz and Partly Cloudy, data visualizations such as Virtual Water and Weather Radials, and he has orchestrated large web strategies like the OECD Data Portal. Timm is design director at IXDS. Previously, he founded the design consultancy Raureif in Berlin, and has worked for IDEO, an international design firm in San Francisco. He teaches interaction design at CIID in København and at Fachhochschule Potsdam.

Frank Rausch, a user interface designer and app developer, specializes in digital typography. He is co-founder and managing partner at Raureif, an award-winning interaction design consultancy based in Berlin. In his work, Frank Rausch explores how technology and code can shape good digital reading experiences. He teaches user interface design and typography at design schools in Potsdam, Copenhagen, and St. Gallen. @frankrausch frankrausch.com

Additionally, she is currently finalizing her PhD on how contract visualization can increase understanding and collaboration within and across organizations (Aalto University School of Science).

She is the initiator of Legal Design Jam, a hands-on workshop that brings together different stakeholders to give an extreme user-centric makeover to a chosen contract (or any other type of insufferably dense legal/bureaucratic document).

She is the World Regional Representative of International Institute of Information Design (IIID) for Finland.

Originally trained as a cognitive psychologist, Alison’s PhD research led into her first explorations in information design, and she has worked with designers ever since. She is co-editor of the recently published book Information Design Research and Practice.
